Best Free Apps (Fr’apps) of the Day
The Apple App Store is currently the best one around. Of course you don’t need an Apple device repair shop to help you in order to run them, but you do need need an Apple device and if you do have one then you owe it to yourself to do some exploring in the virtual shop.

Some Choice Apps
There are so many excellent choices available and many of them are free. Here are some of our current favorites.
- Remote (for Apple TV) – This app allows you to sync with your Apple TV device so that you can control it straight from your iPhone. The remote that comes with Apple TV is pretty tiny and neat-looking as it is, but these days the average amount of TV remotes per setup is 3: 1 for the TV, one for the cable box, and 1 for whichever additional device you use such as DVD player, Xbox, Apple TV or other. Consolidation is the key here. Additionally, when searching for programs with this app, you get to use the iPhone keyboard as opposed to those clunky arrows to scroll through the alphabet.
- Google Maps – this app wasn’t available for the iPhone for a long time due to infighting between Apple and Google. When the iPhone 5 was first released, it came with Apple Maps which was meant to be the Google Maps killer – hence they blocked Google from releasing their own Maps version. Sadly the Apple Maps app sucked, so they were left with no choice but to make an exception. Google Maps is still the top dog when it comes to mobile navigation and with the recent integration of Waze – it’s now that much better.
- Pocket – This is the ultimate browser bookmarking tool. It allows you for you to keep an index of saved web pages that you may not have time to read now but want to revisit later. It stores a text version so that you can read the webpage later even when you don’t have a cellular or WiFi connection. Now you can close all those browser tabs you have been leaving open and just send it to Pocket.
Check Out the Genius Feature
The App Store now has a great feature called “Genius” which they borrowed from their iTunes platform. It scours the app’s you already have downloaded on your phone and makes recommendations of similar ones you may want to check out. Enjoy!
